We are pleased to introduce Bernie Strohfeldt as the new President of Bargara Remembers Inc. Bernie brings with him over 12 years of distinguished service in the Royal Australian Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain. His service spans multiple operational deployments worldwide, including in East Timor, Iraq, and maritime operations.
During his military career, Bernie held key positions, including with the 10 Force Support Battalion, the Army Logistics Training Centre, and HMAS Kanimbla, where he served as 2iC of the Ship’s Army Department. His extensive experience also includes peacekeeping and combat operations, notably OP FALCONER in Iraq (2003) and OP ASTUTE in East Timor (2006). Bernie’s leadership and experience will be vital as he continues the strong legacy built by the Bargara Remembers Inc. committee.
A Fresh Approach to Leadership
Bernie steps into his role following the dedication of our previous President, Greg Barnes, who founded the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in 1997. Greg’s vision and commitment laid the foundation for this iconic community event, which has grown into a cherished tradition for the Bundaberg region. The service remains a powerful testament to the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women, bringing the community together year after year.
While Bernie’s leadership brings a fresh perspective, he is committed to preserving the community connections and traditions established by Greg and the volunteers of Bargara Remembers Inc. Under Bernie’s guidance, the Bargara Dawn Service is poised for continued success.
